The teaching of Tradition seems to be that Jews, of any stripe, who reject the Messiah incur damnation for this disbelief. When one willingly rejects the Messiah, one rejects eternal life.Bonifacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10672810254075072214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6086833995941525990.post-34846130767159221902014-01-09T17:38:59.980-05:002014-01-09T17:38:59.980-05:00bit late with my comment but so many just men and ...bit late with my comment but so many just men and women go to purgatory for original sin, mostly from other pseudo christian groups. That is why Blessed Mary says pleads for the prayers for forgotten souls. They are brothers and sisters of those who do not believe in purgatory. Just as Limbo still exists for orthodox jews. Only God knows what will happen to them if hebrews do not accept Christ as the Messiah. As for those in purgatory God can always up the heat of the purifying flame. He just may do this when we pray and offer plenary indulgences for our departed brothers and sistersAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6086833995941525990.post-87647142301285981592013-09-22T18:27:20.406-04:002013-09-22T18:27:20.406-04:00Christie,
You have to distinguish between in theo...Christie,

You have to distinguish between in theory and in practice. In theory, any sin whatsoever is sufficient to deprive one of the beatific vision, and the Church has formally defined that this applies to Original Sin as well. However, in practice, there is no person who lives their whole life and never commits actual sins. The one exception to this is infants, and while it is certain that Original sin deprives one of the beatific vision, it is not certain that infants who die without baptism do in fact go to God with original sin - there is the possibility (only a possibility) that God remits the original sin in a manner known to Him alone, but this is a more modern explanation. Traditionally, it was understood that since they lacked any actual sin, these infants were deprived of the beatific vision but lived forever in a kind of natural happiness. This was called the Limbo of the Infants. You are right in your hunch that because Hell is punishment, it is not fitting that those who have never committed an actual sin be punished there - hence, Limbo. But in real life, your hypothetical never happens save in the case of unbaptized infants.

original sin does not mean one is guilty; it means one is born deprived of God's grace. Guilt is incurred by actual sin, which man is disposed to as a result of original sin.Bonifacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10672810254075072214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6086833995941525990.post-50860674956507782932013-09-21T10:04:20.648-04:002013-09-21T10:04:20.648-04:00I have a question that slightly relates.

I don't think being born in the state of original sin means one is per se GUILTY, since guilt is referring to disorder in the will cause by that will (sin).

--ChristieChristienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6086833995941525990.post-33963688887060909692011-04-25T22:57:06.288-04:002011-04-25T22:57:06.288-04:00Great work!

In this sense, Christ expirienced all that a soul could possibly experience, but this had nothing to do with torments. Hades was only a punishment in that one was delayed the OT Saints from entering Heaven.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01453168437883536663noreply@blogger.com
