High ranking ecclesiastics are typically reserved people. It is not often that they speak with emotion or allow themselves to appear distraught.
Yet what I see here is a cleric who is profoundly distraught and at a loss for words at the implications of the Kasperite doctrine. His face...his voice...his choice of words...his body language...they all convey a sense of intense sadness at the betrayal he fears is unfolding before him. The man who as head of the Apostolic Signatura was the chief legal expert in the Catholic Church - whose very job was to sort out the definitions of things and the meanings of words - has no words to describe what is happening. The sadness in his eyes tells of his grief. Ultimately all he can do is plead that it stop and express that he does not know how he would be able to "digest" what could happen otherwise.
Dear Cardinal Burke, your expressions and emotions expressed in this short clip so perfectly sum up the experience of millions of suffering Catholics, who like you, don't know how we will be able to digest the things we see unfold before us.
Let us pray fervently for our dear, disgraced Cardinal.

Reminds me of the pain in Archbishop Lefebvre when he spoke of Vatican II.
ReplyDeletekasper out, we must write the rome, all, agaist the relatio.
ReplyDeleteThis is getting very scary. This discussion in Rome should not even be taking place. The policy the Catholic Church had for the last 2000 years on these issues is the correct one, the one that Our Lord taught us himself and there is no room for compromise or discussion. We need to pray very hard right now that no changes take place at all "pastorally" or doctrinally. This could open the door for unprecedented abuses against Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. We are on the precipice of a time when the True Faith may actually have to go underground and it's scary. Somehow I also feel that this may be God's plan. God help us and guide us with your Holy Spirit.
ReplyDeletePraying is not enough. This has been developing and forming for 70 years. The men pushing for new and false concepts like "graduality" have been a fringe element for decades and with their successful election of Francis, finally can come out of the closet (no pun intended). What is needed is action. As usual, the good Catholics are passive and confused, the leftists are full steam ahead. Now, lead by the Pope. How will we stick together? How will we communicate? Individual letters are not enough. We should be peacefully standing in the street with signs "Tradition forever" or whatever is appropriate. Are we, essentially, already underground? "Conservatives" from as high as Burke to as low as an African priest in NYC have been smashed by Francis and the lunatics. We need to get organized. We are 70 years behind, we are going to lose if we don't have a way to recognize one another.
ReplyDeleteThe Holy Ghost works in mysterious ways, could Cardinal Burke be entering his novitiate for greater things to come???
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking that myself lately.
ReplyDeleteWould you add a Twitter button to your blog...and perhaps consider a Twitter acct as well. I'm on Facebook rarely; great piece.
