Exsultet

Fugat odia, concordiam paratet curvat imperia.

O vere beata nox,in qua terrenis caelestia, humanis divina iunguntur!

Please remember to pray for the Holy Roman Emperor also, which used to be included pre-1955! I'm not sure who the current claimant is, but heck, it couldn;t hurt!

Well, that would surely be Otto von Habsburg, would it not? Son of Blessed Kaiser Karl. Unless he has entered into his eternal reward (he is pretty old)

Id imagine if anybody had a claim to the title it would be Otto Hapsburg...but remember, he was heir to the Austrio-Hungarian Empire, not the HRE. The HRE was dissolved in 1806, though I am unclear as to the relation between the HRE and the Austrio-Hungarian Empire...I believe the AH Empire was just a piece of the old HRE that continued on ruled by the same family?

The successor certainly wouldn't be a descendant of Wilhelm since Wilhelm was Kng of Prussia and not a Holy Roman Emperor...

I'd say the head of the Hapsburgs is the rightful heir. That would be Otto, and he was even crowned...too bad he renounced all his claims back in the thirties.

Oops..I mean the 1960's, not the 1930's...

Of course, the HRE was elected by, I think, a certain seven of the more powerful lords within the empire. It tended to pass from father to son, but I don't think the heir had a strict right to the title at all. So I imagine that there is no "heir-claimant" really. Although as the heir to the AHE I don't think many would dispute that Otto would be most deserving.

I recently learned that a seventh verse was added to the Kaiserlied (anthem of the HRE/AHE by Haydn) by Austrian monarchists in which they beg Otto by name to hurry back and finally bring the people peace. I've been trying to learn it in German ;)

The whole anthem is great though.
