Catholic Eco-Spirituality? I think I'm gonna hurl...

This is a link to the website of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Minneapolis. This parish has an "Eco-Spirituality Committe" that is dedicated to helping people realize that "Our human journey is intricately connected with the earth and all its creatures; our way to healing and wholeness (= salvation) plays out through our inter-relationship with the living systems of the earth." I don't know what "wholeness = salvation" means, but check out their website here.

Is Nothing Sacred? Detroit Priest Mentions Red Wings During Consecration

They say that true life is stranger than fiction. Isn't it true! I thought I had seen every type of liturgical abuse imaginable, but then I came across this picture of Fr. Pat Casey of St. Dominic's in Detroit:

No, this has not been PhotoShopped; he actually has the Detroit Red Wings logo on his vestments. This is even sadder because it is in my own backyard (and because I like the Red Wings). Click here for the whole sad story. He even "intoned" the score of the hockey game during the Mass. Grrr...

How can people see things like this and then go on to assert that we need to continue to break away from Tradition? Tradition is the only anchor that keeps us from going off into heresy (case #1), disobedience (case #2) or just plain absurdity (case #3). Only in America!

Thankfully, Fr Casey is gone.... although there is another Fr Casey listed on their website.

Now that the Tigers and Pistons are doing well, perhaps he is somewhere wearing their logos.

Casey at the bat? Or Casey is batty?

I wonder what the current status is of ST Stan's. Follow the money.

Didn't they get eliminated in the first round last playoffs? Guess Fr. Casey didn't help...

From the St. Joan of Arc page:

The earth will go on; we may not.
While I applaud earth-conservation efforts, there is no need to spiritualize it more than "we are stewards of God's creation". Nothing more, nothing less. But more irritating here is that it seems to say this earth is immortal and eternal, whereas we are not. Does the author not know that this universe will pass away, but we are immortal beings?

"Eco-spirituality", which embraces earth-centered and creation-centered spirituality...
Why not a God-centered and Creator-centered spirituality?

...Ouch. Maybe he should go be a Protestant. I hear there's a need for high-n-mighty televangelists. Oh wait...

I suggest a thread for the "Worst Examples of Catholic Parishes"

Perhaps there will be a small consolation when and if we see that things could actually be worse at the parish down the road.

We are already aware of the vast differences between some of the priests in our diocese. Sadly too many Catholics don't consider a goofy priest as a problem. Maybe if they saw the "fruits-of-the-fruit" they might reconsider...... and long for the good old days of traditional Catholic values and teaching.

I see that at least the Father has reverently removed his beer-helmet to flip the Eucharistic IHSburger.

Hmm, that last comment should be removed. Let's not joke about the Sacred.

another addition to the list of anti-Catholic Catholic parishes

Oh, anti-Catholic parishes? How about Holy Family Catholic Community in the Chicago Archdiocese?

Their pastor dislikes the Papal Throne and calls the Traditional Latin Mass "medieval traditionalism-type rituals", full of "mumbling Latin words over objects", and is apparently displeased that there are still rules about how to celebrate Mass.

And check out their substitute for the Crucifix.

Maybe a thread dedicated to this goofyness is not a good idea...... it would be so long as to require its own web site. And you gotta know that site would be linked to AlphaOmega and others who just love to see our dirty laundry aired.

Thank you Jesus for telling us early on that this would happen. We are not suprised, be I want to be defensive in Your Name.

In Your time...... in Your time.
