Today is June 29, the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, the 18th anniversary of the founding of the Unam Sanctam Catholicam blog.
I realized recently that the Unam Sanctam Catholicam blog has actually been the most constant thing in my life. It's outlasted than any job I've ever had. It is older than three of my children and has outlived many friendhsips. It's persevered longer than my hairline did. It's even enjoyed a greater longevity than my marriage. It's weird thinking that the greatest continuity in my adult life has been from an anonymous blog I maintain on an increasingly outdated platform. It is cool but also weird.
I was a very different person in a very different place when I started this blog in 2007. And yet, despite the passing of time, there is still a personal continuity across all the posts over the many years. In a certain sense, this blog has morphed into a chronicle of my own intellectual and spiritual development. It is also by far the biggest outlet for my writing. I've published many books and articles professionally over the years, but this blog's audience easily dwarfs everything else in orders of magnitude. I don't say this to sound self-important or attribute an improper significance to this little corner of the internet; this is, afterall, an amateur endeavor that is not to be taken too seriously—and just to remind you of its amateurness, I am going to say a random crude word just because I can: ballsack. I marvel at this blog's continued success not because I am conceited about it, but because I am shocked by it.
Anyhow, happy 18 years to Unam Sanctam Catholicam. I hope to be around for many more! If this blog has blessed you, entertained you, educated, or edified you in any way, please drop an encouraging comment. And if you are a long time reader, let me know where you are from and how long you've been checking in. Sedes, Orthobros, Prot Fundies and people hostile to this blog are welcome to chime in, too, but please not that I will respond to all antagonistic comments by calling you gay.
